Nowadays, technology is everywhere you look. This may be for a couple different reasons than what I am stating but overall we have technology because it is made to simplify our lives with new inventions that will further our knowledge and connections amongst individuals. Technology in a K-12 class would make learning more fun, benefit the students to learn at their own pace, preparation for the future of emerging technology. Mobile classroom technology improves the classroom and home learning gap. Textbooks being online is also incredibly useful. We are saving trees, they are cheaper than an actual textbook, up-to-date, and overall more interactive. Students have now become more active and engaged in the classroom setting with technology around them. Technology in the classroom also improves teacher and student 1:1 learning. It allows the teacher to deliver a more personalized learning approach in which the lessons could be assigned to each student's progress/needs.
The ISTE standard for educators that is most important to me is a leader. A leader is an individual taking the focus from the overall goal to the persons being lead. Leadership is to understanding and using resources around you to provide the best level of leadership. Leadership is important for K-12 because it improves outcomes for both the school and the students. This standard helps strengthen student academic development and forms relationships through the leadership position. Every child in school has the potential to be a leader.
“Digital Label” is used to refer to the youth and their relationship with technology. In sum, “digital native,” a native speaker of the internet/technology. I agree with Prensky and the assumptions that could be made. I do believe we were born into a time when Internet technology was already a thing and we know how to use it better than people who were born after that time as well as the time someone was born dictating how comfortable and quick one will be able to use it. Yes, I have seen a major difference in how myself a digital native and how the older generation around me, digital immigrants use technology. Every time I go home on break, I always get asked to check or fix something on a technology device. When my family asks me to help them, I guide them through the process and make sure they’re comfortable and know how to do it next time. I believe my students will have more technical abilities because each generation is more tech-savvy. Today’s technology will become old technology and it will be my responsibility to keep up with the emerging technology trends.

We agreed on leadership being the most important ISTE standard, awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi! I like how you pointed out that technology can make learning more fun. Especially for the younger grades that is very true and important in keeping the students excited about learning.
ReplyDeleteI love your stance on the ISTE standards and how you have chosen leadership as the most important quality. Educators do need to have the qualities of a leader to support their students.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had mentioned how technology makes things fun, helps save paper, and makes our live easier- excellent points! I have also seen and experienced the gaps between ourselves (digital natives) and digital immigrants. Like you mentioned, it will be important for us to keep up with the new technology, especially as educators.
ReplyDeleteHey Mel,
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the same experience that I have with my family when it comes to technology. I too agree that students and future generations will have the abilities to advance technology.
